|Braemar Golf Course
|Prior to 2015, the City of Edina owned and operated two golf courses in suburban Minneapolis. In 2015, the City decided to consolidate their golf enterprise and close Fred Richards Golf Course – a 9-hole Executive Course. In addition, the City hired Herfort Norby to renovate Braemar Golf Course – a 27-hole regulation facility with a driving range and and an 9-hole executive course.
Herfort Norby’s recommendations included redesigning the Executive Course to allow for the expansion of the driving range and practice facilities. The Executive Course was completely renovated including modified USGA greens to accommodate two cups daily as well as new irrigation, cart paths, multiple tees and nearly five acres of low maintenance areas and wetland buffers. Improvements to the driving range included a new 102,000 square foot turf tee, 70 station concrete tee line with synthetic mats, practice green, 8,000 square foot lesson tee, target greens, target bunkers, new cart staging area and a new storage building for range equipment.
The project was completed in October of 2015 and opened in the spring of 2016. Total project cost was $1.4 million. The City expects the driving range to gross nearly $400,000 in revenue annually.
Herfort Norby was responsible for all aspects of the project including preparation of detailed plans, bidding, contractor selection and construction administration.
